Debunking Your Yoga Concerns

I have always wanted to teach an Intro to Yoga Series.
The number one concern I hear from people who find out I'm a yoga teacher is that they're not flexible enough for yoga. The second major concern is that they'll go to an in-person class and have no idea what's going on, feel lost, awkward or uncomfortable. The third resistance to yoga is that it's "not really exercise."
Number One: Yoga is more than being flexible enough to you touch your foot to your head - yoga starts with the intention of solitude, inward discovery, and communication of the breath with movement. We shouldn't concern ourselves with the optics of poses, as this is not the point of the practice. And, in order to become flexible, (and in turn, feel good when you bend down to the floor, lift your foot up to tie your shoe, or reach overhead into the pantry) you have to start somewhere.
Number Two: I would hope your local studio is going to welcome you with open arms, but having practiced across the country in dozens of studios, I can tell you that's not always the case. Depending on the class style, instructor and school you may be meeting this fear head on. These Intro to Yoga classes are designed to give you a baseline knowledge of postures and safe alignment so that you are able to follow along. We will discuss different lineages of yoga and schools of yoga commonly practiced in the US.
Number Three: Interesting point! In fact, the intention of yoga was not the westernized version of sweat and insert expensive brand yoga pants. Again, depending on the school and style of yoga class you're taking you may notice different benefits. We'll discuss these variations in bonus classes. If you want an exercise style class, I can happily direct you to some. My hopes are that the classes I post leave you with endorphins, relaxation and a better mind-body connection.
Join me in trying the Intro to Yoga Series, which encompassess learning 5 poses a week and then putting them into a 15 minute flow! Along the way there will be bonus episodes to help clarify asana that may be challenging you. Feel free to ask questions and make this experience all your own.
