Key Habits for a Happier You

As with any attempt to change, too much too fast can be detrimental.  When you’re in the zone, you’re feeling like all of these things are easily accomplished – but if you’ve yet to build up the resilience muscle, just as quickly as you made the changes they can slip away again.

Here’s what happened this winter: I was on my A-game. I started with 3 goals because I didn’t want to over do it – but when I was accomplishing those, I started beefing it up.  Pretty soon I had checklists of things I was supposed to be doing daily and falling behind on them felt like failure.  I started to notice missing a few days of vitamins here and there, or that I wasn’t refilling my water bottle the way I was in January.  I used to be the type of person who, after missing a day would just forget about the vitamins all together, so I noticed an area of growth in that I didn’t need every day to be perfect.  But, I still didn’t feel like I was nailing it.

At the start of this new contract, I had to get selective about what was important to me.  I need to get serious about the core things that make me feel good: sleep, water, exercise. These are key components that make or break metabolism, longevity and my personal barometer for happiness.

Re-focusing on these habits was simple, and subsequently reminded me of a few other habits I had lost along the way.  Getting good sleep means: phone away at a certain time, gratitude list written, and clothes picked out for the next day. Prioritizing water encourages: decreased amount of caffeine, healthier choices and eating slower. And, exercise means endorphins – endorphins make you happy...

I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know – but if you needed a moment to refocus on your key habits, now is the time. It’s May, summer is around the corner and we are that much closer to looking back on 2025 with a proud smile. What are your key habits?
